Us Uppity Bitches

I would too!

There are times when the things I believe in seem to be pointless, like spitting in the ocean. But then I read Deva’s contribution here, and then I decided to add a few badges to my blog. Then I decided that I’m actually still very much plugged into these fields, though I try to be less obnoxious about them. Ghandi may have had some troubling issues, but he did say something useful: “my life is my message”, and perhaps that’s the best way to look at all of this.

There are still female genocides going on, such as this article explores and it is difficult to look at it as anything but. Animals, as I’ve mentioned before, still live in abysmal conditions and are treated with such violence that it is a horrible and painfully true reflection on human animals in general. As far as atheism goes, South Africa is one of the better countries to live in, but there are still places in the world where it is still dangerous to be an atheist, though I admit this happens to anyone Other than the dominant hegemony in many countries.

But the reason I stay involved and try my best to spare whatever energy I can is because each blog is another starfish put back in the ocean. And its never easy being seen as a hairy, evil tree hugger, because apparently this is not what a feminist/atheist/animal lover looks like. Apparently being well-groomed is not part of the accepted stereotype.

Its a short post, but its something I wanted to share. We all have our battles to fight and sometimes our courage and determination flags. Sometimes it would just be easier to watch a movie without thinking “is this what Hollywood really thinks of women?” But then I remember that when we give up, they win, and that is not what I wanted.
